Beacon Terms of Service

These Terms of Service apply to the Beacon mobile application, referred to below as “Beacon” or the “Application.”

By downloading or using Beacon, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Application.

License

Subject to these terms, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to use Beacon for personal or otherwise lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Copy, modify, or redistribute the Application without permission
  • Reverse engineer or extract source code except where permitted by applicable law
  • Circumvent security, storage, or usage restrictions
  • Use Beacon branding, trademarks, or interface assets without permission
  • Use the Application in violation of applicable law
  • Attempt to interfere with the operation or security of the Application
  • Misrepresent your relationship with Beacon or its operators

Local AI Features

Beacon provides local AI chat and model-management features. Supported models run on your device. Beacon does not provide a cloud AI inference service. You are responsible for:

  • Selecting models appropriate for your device
  • Reviewing generated responses before relying on them
  • Determining whether generated content is suitable for your needs
  • How you use AI-generated output
  • Complying with laws applicable to your use of the Application
  • Protecting your device and locally stored conversations

No Beacon Backend

Beacon does not provide or operate a backend service for:

  • AI inference
  • Conversation storage
  • User accounts
  • Prompt processing
  • Image processing
  • Model-catalog delivery
  • AI training

Chat inference is performed locally using the model selected on your device. Beacon does not receive or store your prompts, conversations, attached images, chat history, or AI responses.

AI Accuracy

AI-generated responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, offensive, biased, or outdated. Do not use Beacon as your sole source of information for:

  • Medical decisions
  • Legal decisions
  • Financial decisions
  • Emergency situations
  • Safety-critical activities
  • Employment or housing decisions
  • Decisions where incorrect information could cause harm

You should verify important information with qualified professionals or reliable sources. Beacon does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, safety, or suitability of AI-generated output.

Hugging Face Model Provider

Beacon uses Hugging Face as a third-party provider for hosting downloadable AI model files. Hugging Face does not provide Beacon’s chat inference. After a model is downloaded, it runs locally on your device. When downloading a model, Beacon connects directly to Hugging Face. Your download request may be subject to Hugging Face’s privacy policy and terms. Beacon does not send your prompts, conversations, attached images, AI responses, or chat history to Hugging Face. Beacon does not guarantee the continued availability, performance, or accessibility of models hosted by Hugging Face.

Third-Party Models

Models available through Beacon may be owned, developed, or distributed by third parties. Models may have their own:

  • Licenses
  • Terms of use
  • Acceptable-use policies
  • Commercial-use restrictions
  • Redistribution restrictions
  • Content restrictions

You are responsible for reviewing and complying with the terms applicable to each model you download or use. Beacon does not own third-party models and is not responsible for their:

  • Availability
  • Behavior
  • Accuracy
  • Safety
  • Performance
  • Licensing terms
  • Generated output

The inclusion of a model in Beacon does not constitute an endorsement or warranty.

Device Requirements

Local AI models may require significant storage, memory, battery power, and processing capacity. Performance may vary depending on:

  • Device model
  • Available memory
  • Available storage
  • Battery level
  • Device temperature
  • Operating-system version
  • Model size and architecture
  • Conversation length

Some models may run slowly, consume significant power, become unavailable, or fail to load on unsupported devices. You are responsible for selecting models appropriate for your device.

Storage

Beacon may limit the total amount of storage allocated to downloaded models. Model sizes shown in the Application are estimates. Actual storage usage may vary due to:

  • Model updates
  • Download caches
  • Tokenizer files
  • Configuration files
  • File-system behavior
  • Temporary download data

You are responsible for maintaining sufficient available storage on your device.

Connectivity and Charges

Chat inference can operate locally after a compatible model is available on your device. Downloading optional models requires an internet connection and connects directly to Hugging Face. You are responsible for charges related to:

  • Mobile data usage
  • Roaming
  • Internet service
  • Third-party network services

If you are not the device or account owner, you confirm that you have permission to incur these charges.

User Content

You retain responsibility for prompts, images, and other content you provide to Beacon. You must not use Beacon to create, process, or distribute content that:

  • Violates applicable law
  • Infringes intellectual-property rights
  • Violates privacy or publicity rights
  • Facilitates fraud or unlawful activity
  • Harms or exploits another person
  • Interferes with systems or networks

Because conversations are stored locally, you are responsible for securing your device and backups.

Generated Content

Subject to applicable law and third-party model terms, you may use generated content at your own risk. Beacon does not guarantee that generated content:

  • Is original
  • Is free from third-party rights
  • Is accurate
  • Is suitable for publication
  • Is eligible for copyright protection
  • May be used commercially

You are responsible for reviewing generated content before using, publishing, or distributing it.

Intellectual Property

Beacon’s application code, branding, interface, trademarks, and related intellectual property belong to their respective owners. Third-party models, libraries, frameworks, and services remain governed by their respective licenses and terms. These terms do not grant you ownership of Beacon or third-party intellectual property.

Privacy

Your use of Beacon is also governed by the Beacon Privacy Policy. Beacon is designed to process conversations locally and does not operate a backend for conversation storage or AI inference.

Updates and Availability

Beacon may be updated, changed, suspended, or discontinued at any time. Updates may be required to continue using the Application. Features, supported models, storage limits, and device compatibility may change over time. We do not guarantee that Beacon or any particular model will always be:

  • Available
  • Compatible
  • Error-free
  • Supported
  • Suitable for your device

Third-Party Availability

Beacon relies on third-party services only for optional model hosting and downloads. Beacon is not responsible for:

  • Service interruptions
  • Removed models
  • Changed model licenses
  • Download failures
  • Network restrictions
  • Third-party security incidents
  • Changes to third-party terms

A previously available model may become unavailable without notice.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Beacon is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee:

  • The accuracy or reliability of AI responses
  • Compatibility with every device
  • Continuous availability
  • Error-free operation
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement
  • Merchantability
  • Preservation of local data

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Beacon and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from:

  • Your use or inability to use the Application
  • AI-generated output
  • Downloaded models
  • Third-party services
  • Data loss
  • Device performance
  • Battery usage
  • Storage issues
  • Network charges
  • Decisions made based on generated responses

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain liability limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

Indemnification

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Beacon and its operators from claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from:

  • Your misuse of the Application
  • Your violation of these terms
  • Your violation of applicable law
  • Content you submit, generate, publish, or distribute
  • Your violation of third-party rights or model licenses

Termination

We may suspend or discontinue the Application at any time. Your right to use Beacon ends if you violate these terms. Upon termination, you must stop using the Application if required. Sections that should reasonably survive termination, including intellectual-property, disclaimer, indemnification, and liability provisions, will remain in effect.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable consumer-protection law.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The updated version will be published with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of Beacon after an update means you accept the revised terms.
